Nissan Silvia for sale in Japan

Buying one from here

Spec-R or Spec-S decides the price

On an S15 the Spec-R is the turbocharged six-speed car and the Spec-S is the naturally aspirated one. They look identical in a photograph and are worth very different money, so the trim on the sheet matters more than the mileage does.

Most of these were drifted

Check the sheet diagram for repairs to the rear quarters, the chassis rails and the boot floor, and treat a grade of R or RA as what it says: accident-repaired. A straight, standard car costs more for a reason and is the one worth shipping.

The engine is the unknown

Almost every surviving SR20DET has been boosted beyond standard at some point. Nobody in Japan offers a compression test, so budget for the engine rather than expecting to verify it. We can have the car looked at in person at any USS auction house before it crosses the block.

What it costs to land one in the US

Ocean freight, customs duty, clearance and our sourcing fee sit on top of the Japanese price. The duty rate is 12.5% of the car's value — the figure JDM Imports works to, and the one the calculator uses; see tariffRate in js/services/calculator.js, which is the authority. Every line of that cost is set out here, and the 25-Year Rule is explained here. The landed cost calculator works the whole figure for any car on this page before you commit to it, and cars 2002 and older clear the 25-Year Rule.
